Nicola Parfitt is a sustainability scientist and market developer at Sanitation360 AB, a Swedish cleantech company specialising in recovering nutrients, water, and energy from human urine for agricultural use - an approach with direct potential for closed-loop life support in space. She holds a master's in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science and a bachelor's in Biology, both from Lund University. Through Sanitation360's real-world pilots and commercialisation work across Scandinavia, Nicola contributes a grounded, applied perspective to the Terrestrial Applications module of the ECLSS course.
Sanitation360 AB develops systems that turn human urine into dry agricultural fertiliser, closing the nutrient loop in food production. The company has run real-world pilots across Scandinavia and is advancing commercialisation of urine-derived fertiliser - technology with direct relevance to closed-loop resource management in space habitats.
